Hello 7 Hills Faithful! We have been rocking the house all year with the help of everyone who reads in the open, sits and listens, features, and slams – and we intend to keep on doing so until the earth stops spinning. We had an AMAZING WOWPS slam and this month’s show will not be any less gorgeous!
This month our feature will be Oomp Will – Oompa is a Roxbury-based hip-hop artist, spoken word performer, and lover of all things music. The child of a southern black woman raised in the 30s, she is heavily inspired by the sounds of artists like James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Luther Vandross, and Bob Marley. A 90s baby of the east coast, she is the product of Lauryn Hill, TLC, John Legend, Jazmine Sullivan, and Kendrick Lamar. Her music and poetry are stories from her life that depict the interplay of success, politics, and identity.
And our spotlight this month will be Paulie Lipman – Paulie is a Jewish/Queer/Writer out of Denver, CO. He has toured the U.S. extensively (and a little bit of Canada) performing poetry, is the voice of Neal Cassady in the documentary ‘Neal Cassidy: The Denver Years’, and has had work appear in The Legendary, Radius, Borderline, Drunk In A MidnightChoir, and The Write Bloody Publishing anthologies ‘The Good Things About America’ and ‘We Will Be Shelter’. He has been a member of 9 Denver Mercury Slam teams, including 2004’s 2nd place finishers and 2015’s 4th place finishers.
As always the Illustrious DJ MUSE will be on the 1’s and 2’s, spinning everything you ever loved, will love, and forgot you loved. Open mic & slam (4th qualifier tonight!) lists go up at 7 and the show starts at 7:30. NO COVER but we do have a $5 suggested donation (however, we turn no one away). COME EARLY STAY LATE – food and drink (if of proper age with proper ID) is served. Meet people, catch up with people you have already met and EVERYTHING in between!
