May 1st – Rachel McKibbens

rmckibbins_zpssjmjzysiWell folks the big dance is finally here! We have spent 8 months watching some great poets battle for a slot on the 2016 7 Hills Slam team, but only 4 people will get to ride out to ATL GA and smash nationals! This is going to be a crazy hype show.

We will have our open mic, and then, before the slam, we have a HUGE treat for all of you – our feature this month is none other than Rachel McKibbens. If this is a name you have never heard before then please prepare to be mind blown!

Rachel McKibbens is a two-time New York Foundation for the Arts poetry fellow and author of the poetry collections, Into the Dark & Emptying Field (2013) and Pink Elephant (2009), and the chapbook MAMMOTH.  A nine-time National Poetry Slam team member, Rachel is the 2009 Women of the World Poetry Slam champion and the 2011 National Underground Poetry Slam individual champion.

For four years McKibbens taught poetry through Urban Word NYC and The Healing Arts Program at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, and continues to teach poetry and present lectures across the country as an advocate for mental health awareness, gender-equality, and victims of violence and domestic abuse. She lives with her family in upstate New York, where she co-curates the monthly reading series Poetry & Pie Night.

As always the Illustrious DJ MUSE on the 1’s and 2’s spinning everything you ever loved, will love, and forgot you loved. Open mic list goes up at 7 and the show starts promptly at 7:30.

NO COVER but we do have a 5$ suggested donation (however, we turn no one away).

COME EARLY STAY LATE! Order food! Order drink (if of proper age with proper ID) meet people, catch up with people you have already met and EVERYTHING in between!
