October 10th –  Tony Brown & the Ghost in the (Simple) Machine Slam

Tony Brown

Tony Brown has been writing for over 40 years, and publishing and performing his work for over 30. A six-time Pushcart Prize nominee, his work has appeared in too many journals and anthologies to list here without his being accused of bragging, and he’d never want to do that. He has traveled all over the country, slammed for the Worcester Poets’ Asylum, organized and hosted readings and reading series, and written extensively on poetry for the (now defunct and sadly missed) website gotpoetry.com. A new chapbook, In The Embers, came out in summer of 2016 from Tired Hearts Press. His personal blog, Dark Matter, is constantly updated with new poems.

Tony most commonly performs his poetry with The Duende Project, which includes Steven Lanning-Cafaro on electric and acoustic bass and classical guitar, Chris Lawton on acoustic and electric guitar, and Chris O’Donnell on drums. They’ve spent 10 years performing up and down the East Coast.. Their most recent collection, “Basement Takes,” is available on Bandcamp. Their website offers links to videos, music, show schedules, and more.

This month our theme slam will be the Ghost in the (Simple) Machine!
– 2 rounds of poems about machines, the divine in them, and all the ways things work. You could win an adorable (and coveted!) Raven trophy!

Open mic goes up at 7:30 and the show starts at 8.

$5 suggested donation (however we turn no one away). COME EARLY STAY LATE! Order food! Order drink (if of proper age with proper ID)! Meet people, catch up with people you have already met and EVERYTHING in between!
